Living Threads brings together the work of artists Madeline Sturm and Katie Simmons, whose practices are rooted in the natural world and shaped by personal experience. Through drawing, textiles, and organic materials, both artists explore the deep connections between humans and other living systems; connections that are often felt more than seen.

Sturm draws inspiration from specific landscapes—places she has walked, observed, and recorded. Her quilts and lithographic drawings isolate delicate forms like nests and twigs, inviting viewers to notice the quiet relationships that sustain life. By focusing on what is fragile and often overlooked, she calls
attention to the interconnectedness that binds all living things.

Simmons weaves together her experiences as a wildlife biologist, trauma survivor, and educator. Using natural dyes made from fungi, plants, and lichens, she collaborates with the materials of her environment to build visual ecosystems. Her work blurs the line between human and non-human, often
reflecting on the body as both vulnerable and resilient. She asks us to consider how our personal histories, especially those marked by harm, might find healing through a renewed relationship with the natural world.

Together, Sturm and Simmons offer a shared vision of interdependence. Their work asks us to listen closely—to bodies, to environments, to the spaces where grief, care, and regeneration meet. In a time of ecological and personal precarity, Living Threads offers not only reflection, but a quiet kind of hope.
