For 7 decades my art life continues to be both rewarding and sustaining. With some time out to come to terms with incurable terminal illness, i have gradually been producing work on a comission only basis…now i feel that this submission for membership is an exercise in optimism….for the future.
Art is the warp upon which i weave a tapestry of work in a variety of mediums and styles. Ranging from naive’, to intellectual, to intuitive. Always from my heart.
Childhood drawings drew praise and the award of a scholarship to the prestigious Pallette classes taught by Joseph Fitzpatrick at the Carnegie Institute in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Later, studies at the University of Pittsburgh, Carnegie Tech (CMU), and the Ivy School of Professional Art took me from the natural world of a rural background to urban sophistication, i thought. In recent years I have been a private student of Boulder’s Robert Venossa and Austrian, Ernst Fuchs, who represent the school of fantastic realism.
I could never latch onto any one medium or style for all-time. As a founding member of the Weavers Guild of Pittsburgh, my fiber art ranged from traditional to very experimental for the time then. Also award winning at various juried shows.
At that time I also assisted in the running of a professional commercial / industrial photography business and mothering my small son.
Over these 70 years my work has encompassed fiber art, men and women’s apparel design and manufacture, poster art, advertising and interior design, drawing, painting in oil and acrylic, sculpture, and jewelry design.
Recently my commissions have opened up an intuitive voice for telling a story by the use of icons, symbols, or whimsical characters. A story depicting the lives or interests of the individuals who commission the work.
My work is held in private collections worldwide.
