My intention is not to imitate nature, but to capture and interpret how it makes me feel.
Inspiration comes from a place of discovery. I start with an idea, but I let the process take me in a winding path where no boundaries , judgment or expectations exist.
Whether I am painting vast landscapes on canvas or tiny florals on wood board, using brushes or palette knives, oils or acrylics, I let go and trust my intuition.
If all comes together, the result is an artwork that surprises me, filled with exciting and contrasting hues, saturated with joy and free-flowing essence that elevates my Spirt.
My purpose is to ignite positive emotions, not only within me, but also in anyone who comes across my work.
My story began around fifty-something years ago, in a far, far away land… ok, not so far, just 5,000 miles, in a city called Lima -Peru, known for their delicious dishes like “Ceviche” and “Lomo Saltado”. Anyway, getting back to my story… after 16 years of Peruvian food, my parents moved us (my three sisters and me) to the US.
The short story… Life got complicated, but we adjusted quickly.
It wasn’t until my thirties that I went back to school to start a career in Graphic Design. I loved it. However, before graduating, I took several painting classes. From then on I was hooked. I left school with a degree and a few artist awards under my arm.
It’s been more than 25 years since my first brush stroke, and I feel no regrets. Still painting, loving it, and growing as an artist. A humbling experience.
