I create art to share an image with people that might make them smile, help them to feel an emotion, or connect to a memory. I would like for my art to inspire people to reflect. I want to capture movement and moments of time, although I can’t make time stand still, perhaps I can paint an image that will take someone back to a time they felt at peace, joyful, or another strong emotion. My artwork is colorful, bright and typically nature based. I experiment with a variety of materials related to drawing and painting such as soft pastel, oil pastel, charcoal, watercolor, as well as oil and
acrylic paint. Similar to impressionism, I strive to capture light. I’d like to inspire people to step outside, take a deep breath and find beauty in their surroundings.

Drawing and painting is something I’ve been passionate about since I was young. I remember my favorite after school activity was to take art lessons from a local artist with my good friends. I spent years learning about different art techniques, studying master’s work and
experimenting with different mediums. Art helped me in numerous ways, it enabled me to express my emotions, destress, practice perseverance and patience, connect with others and have fun.

I received my bachelor’s degree from the University of Colorado at Boulder in Studio Art with an emphasis in painting and a minor in Art History. At the same time, I received my K-6 teaching license and this year I received a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction in Literacy. I began my path in education through art. I worked at the DeYoung Museum in San
Francisco and the Denver Art Museum during my summers. These experiences gave me the opportunity to design lessons, and engage visitors and students in a discussion about art by using the Visual Thinking Strategies conversation structure.

I have recently invested more time in painting and artmaking. I am excited to explore different materials and compositions. I am inspired by others and will strive to be a part of artist communities. I associate positive memories with the landscapes that I draw and paint. I try to capture the light and color that catches my eye and I hope to share this beauty with others.
